Job Description Summary

The Astrophysics Research Institute at Liverpool John Moores University is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Research Assistant to contribute to groundbreaking star cluster research. This 3-year fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to work on the “Stellar Clusters as the Nurseries of Black Holes” project, funded by UK Research & Innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct individual and collaborative research projects in star cluster research
  • Contribute to the development of new models, techniques, and methods in astrophysics
  • Analyze and interpret data, prepare and submit papers for presentation at conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Make presentations at national and international conferences
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and implementation of research projects
  • Manage research resources and budgets effectively
  • Identify potential funding sources and contribute to securing funds
  • Liaise with the external research community through seminars and conferences
  • Contribute to commercial and consultancy activities
  • Maintain contact with appropriate professional bodies
  • Engage in the University’s appraisal process and complete 10 days of professional development activities per year
  • Assist in the assessment of student knowledge and supervision of projects
  • Coach and support junior colleagues in developing research techniques
  • Contribute to a supportive working environment and develop productive relationships with team members
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, open days, student welcome events, graduation ceremonies, and clearing events
  • Act as an ambassador for the University in all interactions with staff, students, visitors, external partners, media, and the general public
