Job Description Summary

Giant Tiger is seeking a dedicated Retail Cashier to join their team at the Walkley Road location in Ottawa. This part-time position offers up to 24 hours weekly and provides an excellent opportunity to work with a proudly Canadian-owned and operated retailer with over 60 years of success in the community.

Responsibilities

Retail Cashier Primary Duties 🛍️

  • Ensure exceptional customer service at checkout stations, maintaining a friendly and efficient experience for all shoppers
  • Accurately process customer transactions through electronic cash registers, mainline, and self-checkout systems
  • Regularly replenish merchandise around the checkout area to ensure product availability
  • Follow all health and safety policies and guidelines to maintain a safe shopping environment
  • Keep the checkout work area clean, organized, and presentable at all times
  • Implement loss prevention best practices during all transactions and store operations
  • Ensure strict compliance with all policies regarding the sale of tobacco products and lottery tickets
  • Operate efficiently during peak shopping periods while maintaining accuracy and customer satisfaction

Additional Keyholder Responsibilities (If Applicable) 🔑

Depending on performance and availability, Cashiers may be given the opportunity to take on additional Keyholder responsibilities, which include:

  • Opening and closing the store on an ad hoc basis as operational needs require
  • Running register reports at closing time to ensure accurate cash handling procedures
  • Verifying all store areas are tidy and presentable before closing
  • Confirming all associates have completed their end-of-shift tasks according to standards
  • Maintaining store security, including proper locking procedures and alarm system management
  • Preparing the store for opening, ensuring proper stocking and presentation standards are met
  • Enabling point-of-sale systems and disabling security systems during opening procedures
  • Receiving and processing deliveries according to company protocols
