📋 VMware Systems Administrator Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Administrator at Stanford University will be responsible for a comprehensive range of technical duties related to virtual infrastructure management:
- Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Management: Take full responsibility for the VDI service and all related technologies, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- System Design and Implementation: Design, develop, install, and maintain operating systems, utilities, and applications software on computing systems.
- VMware Architecture: Architect, implement and maintain virtual infrastructure solutions based on VMware technologies, including VMVDI and VMware ESX.
- Daily Administration: Perform day-to-day administration, operation, and support of University IT Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, including physical servers, storage, and networking.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve PC, Thin/Zero-client, Virtual Desktop, and Mac hardware and software problems, including operating systems, network connectivity, file sharing, printing, and application functions.
- Emergency Response: Resolve system emergencies with significant impact on data integrity and system functionality.
- Security Management: Design, configure, implement, and maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures.
- Business Continuity: Establish software/hardware standards and systems policies for business continuation and disaster recovery planning.
- Strategic Planning: Engage in long-term strategic planning for systems development and integration.
- System Implementation: Conceptualize and implement systems within broad technical frameworks.
- Capacity Planning: Perform capacity planning for system configuration, software services, network services, load distribution, and service interrelationships.
- Technical Leadership: Act as a technical expert and project leader on large-scale computing projects, assigning and overseeing the work of other system administrators as needed.
- Vendor Management: Work with vendors to ensure cost-effective hardware and software maintenance agreements.
- Windows Server Management: Work with Windows server technology, Microsoft Active Directory, BigFix, Microsoft SCCM, and PowerShell.
