Research Administrator Role at Stanford Cancer Institute

The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) is seeking an experienced Research Administrator to join their prestigious Clinical Trials Office (CTO). This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking cancer research at one of only 49 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. As a Research Administrator, you’ll play a crucial role in managing sponsored cancer clinical trials and serve as the primary institutional representative for grant and contract administration.

Job Description Summary

The Research Administrator will direct and manage the clinical trial proposal and award process, ensuring timely, compliant, and accurate contracts while providing strategic advice to Principal Investigators (PIs) in a dynamic research environment.

Research Administrator Responsibilities

  • Proposal Development and Submission: Prepare complex proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines. Oversee electronic and paper submission processes, resolving issues related to proposal preparation and submittal.
  • Budget Management: Develop, prepare, revise, and finalize project budgets with detailed justifications. Secure cost-sharing commitments and support documentation for research projects.
  • Liaison Activities: Serve as the active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments. Respond to sponsor inquiries and advise on new regulations affecting research administration.
  • Award Management: Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure proper award setup and fulfillment of cost-sharing requirements. Review and approve expenditures and advise on post-award spending.
  • Financial Reporting: Develop and communicate reports supporting project status, create forecasting models, scenarios, and decision aids for research planning.
  • Compliance Oversight: Manage contract closeout processes and address audit inquiries. Submit final reports and certificates in accordance with sponsor requirements.
  • Policy Interpretation: Interpret complex university and government policies including FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, and Office of Management and Budget circulars for project and university personnel.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements and participate in cross-campus projects. Train and advise on issues requiring specific technical expertise.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee and review work of other staff. May supervise, train, and mentor team members in research administration best practices.
