Job Description Summary
The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) is seeking a dedicated Research Administrator to serve as the institutional representative for sponsored cancer clinical trials. This critical role will manage the clinical trial proposal and award process, ensuring timely, compliant, and accurate contracts while providing expert financial oversight throughout the lifecycle of research projects.
📋 Research Administrator Responsibilities
Contract and Proposal Management: Prepare complex proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines. Oversee and communicate submission processes, both paper and electronic, while resolving issues related to preparation and submittal processes.
Budget Development and Financial Oversight: Develop, prepare, revise, and finalize project budgets with justifications. Obtain cost-sharing commitments and support while ensuring appropriate financial management throughout the project lifecycle.
Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments. Respond to sponsor inquiries and advise on new regulations affecting research administration.
Award Setup and Compliance: Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure proper award setup and fulfillment of cost-sharing requirements. Initiate cost transfers when necessary and maintain regulatory compliance.
Financial Reporting and Analysis: Review and approve expenditures while advising on post-award spending. Develop and communicate reports supporting project status, create forecasting models, and provide decision-making tools for research leadership.
Contract Closeout Management: Manage the contract closeout process and audit inquiries, submit final reports and certificates, ensuring all contractual obligations are fulfilled.
Policy Interpretation: Interpret complex university and government policies (FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, OMB circulars, etc.) for project and university personnel while guiding other staff in understanding these complex regulations.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements across campus projects. Train and advise on issues requiring specific technical expertise in research administration.
Team Leadership: Oversee and review work of other staff. May supervise, train, and mentor team members while serving as a subject matter resource to principal investigators and staff.
