Job Description Summary

An exciting opportunity to join Imperial College London’s Public and Community Engagement team as an Engagement Coordinator, helping university staff and students develop skills to engage public audiences with their research while supporting the establishment of the new Centre for Societal Engagement.

Public Engagement Responsibilities for Academic Success

Are you ready to take your public engagement career to the next level? As the Engagement Coordinator (Capacity Building) at Imperial College London, you’ll play a vital role in connecting cutting-edge STEMB research with diverse public audiences. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop and implement training programs that empower researchers to effectively communicate their work and create meaningful public engagement experiences.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering comprehensive public engagement training programs for staff and students across all academic levels, helping them develop essential skills to communicate complex research to non-specialist audiences
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on developing, implementing, and evaluating public engagement activities that create meaningful connections between research and various community groups
  • Creating innovative resources and toolkits to support engagement practitioners, including online materials, case studies, and best practice examples that can be easily accessed and implemented
  • Contributing to monitoring and analysis of capacity building initiatives, gathering data and insights to continuously improve training programs and resources
  • Coordinating diverse networks across the university, facilitating collaboration between departments and disciplines to enhance public engagement efforts
  • Supporting the development of the new Centre for Societal Engagement, helping to establish it as a hub for excellence in research engagement

Skills Required for Public Engagement Excellence

The ideal candidate for this public engagement position will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in developing and delivering public engagement activities for diverse audiences, with a deep understanding of effective engagement strategies
  • Strong facilitation skills with experience delivering face-to-face training or briefings to staff, volunteers and/or students in professional settings
  • Exceptional communication abilities including excellent written and verbal skills, with consistent attention to detail and organizational prowess
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments and support colleagues in developing their engagement practice
