Product Photographer Responsibilities 📸
The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining GS1 Canada’s reputation for excellence in product photography. Your meticulous attention to detail and technical expertise will ensure clients receive consistently high-quality images that meet strict standards. As a Product Photographer in our Montreal studio, you will be responsible for:
Daily Task Management: Review and organize photography assignments, ensuring all files are prioritized effectively to meet production timelines and client expectations. This includes managing your workflow to maximize efficiency without compromising quality.
Quality-Focused Image Capture: Take professional photographs that strictly adhere to GS1 Canada’s established standards, maintaining consistent quality across all product categories. Your technical expertise will ensure every image meets our exacting requirements.
Product Assessment: Evaluate incoming sample products to determine their condition and identify any challenges that might require additional processing by the graphic artists team. This critical assessment helps streamline the production process.
Technical Optimization: Fine-tune image capture techniques to ensure proper exposure, lighting, and color settings for each product standard. Your knowledge of studio lighting will be essential in creating professional, commercially viable images.
File Management: Implement proper naming conventions for all image files, maintaining an organized digital asset library that facilitates efficient workflow and retrieval.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all photography equipment is present, properly maintained, and fully functional to maximize studio efficiency and prevent production delays.
Workflow Improvement: Contribute to enhancing production efficiencies by identifying bottlenecks and suggesting practical solutions to improve overall studio workflow.
Excellence Standards: Align your work practices with the studio’s “center of excellence” values, focusing on quality and efficiency in all aspects of your role.
Deadline Adherence: Ensure all images are delivered to subscribers within established deadlines, maintaining our reputation for reliability and timeliness.
Adaptability: Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and proactivity in supporting the studio’s dynamic needs and goals in a fast-paced commercial environment.
Product Photography Skills & Qualifications Required
Technical Photography Expertise
To excel in this Product Photographer position, you must possess comprehensive knowledge of professional photography techniques, particularly in a controlled studio environment. Your portfolio should demonstrate mastery of product photography with an emphasis on detail, lighting, and composition.
The ideal candidate will have:
- College diploma in photography or equivalent certification from a recognized institution
- 1-3 years of professional experience in commercial product photography
- Specialized experience in various product photography styles including table-top photography, 2D, planogram, e-commerce, and nutrition photography (considered an asset)
- In-depth knowledge of the mechanical workings of professional photographic equipment
- Demonstrated expertise with master lighting studio techniques
- Proven proficiency in Adobe Photoshop in a professional commercial environment
- Relevant experience in digital and/or film photo lab settings
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in meeting quality standards
Physical Requirements
The role requires certain physical capabilities including:
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and bend to handle products weighing up to 49 lbs (approximately 25% of work time)
