📄 Job Description Summary
The University of Chicago Library is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused individual to serve as the Regenstein Evening/Weekend Circulation Supervisor. This part-time role is pivotal in overseeing the circulation services during evening and weekend hours, ensuring smooth operations, and maintaining a scholarly environment within the Regenstein Library.
🛠️ Responsibilities
- Hire, train, supervise, and schedule approximately 20 part-time student counter attendants.
- Monitor and approve hours and payroll for student staff.
- Coach and direct student staff in maintaining circulation policies and customer service standards.
- Supervise clerical staff during shifts and act as the supervisor in charge of the Regenstein Library.
- Oversee building security and enforce policies to maintain a scholarly environment.
- Execute opening or closing procedures of the Regenstein Library.
- Report building issues to Library and University Facilities Services and provide initial responses to emergencies.
- Provide support for public events held in the Regenstein Library.
- Answer patron questions related to Access Services and route inquiries to appropriate resources as needed.
- Manage daily circulation workflow, including lending materials awaiting pickup, course reserves, and general collections.
- Document and update departmental procedures accordingly.
- Handle inquiries concerning overdue books, recalls, reserve problems, and fines in person, over the phone, and via online ticketing system.
- Collect fines and fees, and attempt to resolve problems as appropriate.
- Enforce policies for maintaining a scholarly environment with empathy and tact.
- Provide supervisory coverage for Mansueto Circulation as needed due to staffing absences or vacancies.
- Distribute work to and monitor the work done by student counter attendants; troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
