As a Learning Experience Designer at WSIB, you’ll be at the forefront of creating innovative educational content that bridges performance gaps and enhances workforce capabilities. You’ll collaborate with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and business partners to develop comprehensive learning strategies that align with organizational objectives and leverage the most effective learning methodologies.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of adult learning principles, design thinking approaches, and proficiency with various authoring tools and technologies. This role requires someone who can translate complex information into accessible, engaging, and effective learning experiences that resonate with diverse audiences.

💼 Key Responsibilities of a Learning Experience Designer

Workplace Learning Advisory and Strategy Development

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, business partners, and subject matter experts across the organization
  • Provide expert advice on selecting appropriate learning modalities, media, methods, and delivery channels
  • Stay current with industry trends in instructional design, learning technologies, and performance improvement
  • Contribute to learning design standards, style guides, templates, and project management processes
  • Lead the execution of deliverables to ensure timely completion

Learning Needs Analysis and Design Thinking

  • Conduct client meetings, focus groups, interviews, and surveys to understand performance gaps
  • Create empathy maps, learner personas, stakeholder analyses, and experience maps
  • Develop performance-based learning objectives that address identified gaps
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate their knowledge into effective learning content
  • Curate, organize, and update existing learning materials and resources

End-to-End Learning Experience Design

  • Design cohesive learning journeys, programs, curricula, and courses for critical training moments
  • Create experience design documents outlining learning experiences, evaluation plans, and technical architecture
  • Develop new or modify existing learning products using various media and modalities
  • Utilize authoring tools like Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, and Microsoft 365
  • Design facilitator guides, presentation materials, and performance support tools

Learning Product Development

  • Create storyboards, scripts, and visual elements for learning materials
  • Prototype designs and coordinate user experience testing
  • Select appropriate audio-visual elements to support learning content
  • Perform quality assurance on deliverables to ensure standards compliance
  • Implement SCORM or xAPI compliant coding for learning management systems

Evaluation and Implementation Support

  • Design measurement and evaluation plans to assess learning effectiveness
  • Create assessments, knowledge checks, and performance tests
  • Analyze evaluation results and make recommendations for improvements
  • Support implementation through train-the-trainer sessions and implementation planning
  • Publish and maintain learning content in appropriate systems

🎓 Learning Experience Designer Qualifications and Requirements

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, adult education, or instructional design
  • OR Bachelor’s degree with diploma/certificate in workplace learning, instructional design, eLearning development, graphic design, or user experience design

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, learning development, design thinking, and learning management systems

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with learning authoring tools (Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia)
  • Experience with learning management systems and SCORM/xAPI standards
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
  • Strong project management and coordination abilities
