Job Description Summary

Lead the University’s Student Complaints, Conduct and Funding service area as a key member of the Student Experience Leadership Group, overseeing critical student support services while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and developing effective policies.

Higher Education Leadership Responsibilities

As the Head of Student Complaints, Conduct and Funding at the University of Sussex, you will shoulder significant responsibilities that directly impact the student experience and institutional compliance. This leadership position involves:

  • Overseeing the complete operation and delivery of key student support services including Student Complaints processes, Student Discipline procedures, Student Funding matters, and Criminal Conviction procedures
  • Developing and drafting regulations, guidance documents, and reports that underpin university policies and procedures
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the university to ensure policies are fit for purpose and compliant with regulatory bodies including the Office for Students (OfS), Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIAHE), and US Government requirements
  • Actively participating in the Student Experience Leadership Group, working closely with the Director of Student Support and Wellbeing
  • Managing complex processes while prioritizing decisions under pressure and within tight timelines
  • Leading and nurturing a team of professionals dedicated to supporting students throughout their academic journey

  • Education to degree level or substantial equivalent experience in higher education administration or student services
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current legislation and policies relevant to student complaints, conduct, and funding mechanisms
