The Catering and Events Department operates across multiple venues throughout Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus and other off-site locations. Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to provide affordable, high-quality food and exceptional service to the entire Imperial College community.
In this pivotal position, you’ll work closely with the Events and Catering Duty Supervisor to ensure seamless operational delivery of catering services. You’ll take responsibility for preparing and serving at catered events, coordinating team members, and ensuring all customer requirements are met with the highest standards of professionalism.
Your role will involve operational oversight of service provision, clearing rooms of delivered catering, collecting and recording customer consumption data, and gathering valuable feedback. Throughout all activities, you’ll maintain strict compliance with College policies, department standards, and health and hygiene legislation.
📋 Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive hospitality catering services, ensuring timely delivery and clearance of all catering items according to service standards
- Brief and coordinate agency staff and team members to deliver professional, efficient service at all events
- Maintain accurate records of catering consumption and report to supervisors
- Report any service failures promptly to the Events and Catering Duty Supervisor
- Ensure proper waste disposal according to institutional guidelines
- Communicate professionally with event organizers and guests, offering friendly, courteous, and welcoming service
- Identify opportunities for customer service improvements and help implement effective solutions
- Work across all Imperial Campuses as required, including evening and weekend shifts
💼 Essential Requirements for Events Catering Success
- Basic food hygiene qualification (or ability to obtain a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate within two months of appointment)
- Previous experience in a similar catering environment
- Demonstrated experience supervising agency staff or relevant team members at catering functions and small dinners
- Responsible attitude toward workplace health and safety
- Enthusiasm for and knowledge of customer care/service
- Ability to work effectively with diverse personalities at all levels
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends
