Job Description Summary
The University of Reading is seeking a skilled Senior Field and Laboratory Technician to join their Environmental Agricultural Science team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in sustainable agriculture across Europe.
Responsibilities
- Collect soil, plant, leachate, and gas samples from experimental plots at the University of Reading farm in Sonning
- Prepare, extract, and analyze samples for key chemical or biological properties using advanced analytical instruments
- Maintain laboratory equipment, manage samples and consumables, and oversee housekeeping and data recording
- Provide technical support to postdoctoral researchers and conduct controlled environment experiments
- Develop methods, author Standard Operating Procedures, and create Risk Assessments
- Collaborate with academic staff, students, and other technical staff to align activities and improve efficiency
- Adhere to University Health and Safety guidelines
- Visit on-farm experiments across the UK to collect samples and assist with pest and disease assessments
- Supervise students, visitors, trainee technicians, and interns on an ad hoc basis
