Are you a motivated electronics engineering graduate looking to kickstart your career with hands-on experience in a research environment? The University of Exeter is seeking a Graduate Electronics Engineer to join their Technical Strategy and Operations Engineering team for a 12-month contract position as part of their Graduate Business Partnership scheme.

Electronics Engineer Responsibilities and Project Details 🔌

As a Graduate Electronics Engineer at the University of Exeter, you will play a crucial role in the development of electronics design projects, with a primary focus on a research project in the Geography Department centered on CO2 capture in pasture. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Providing efficient solutions for electronics design projects, particularly focused on instrumentation and control systems
  • Integrating sensors and electro-mechanical devices into instrumentation and control systems
  • Creating and modifying components using hand and power tools, requiring practical engineering skills
  • Developing understanding of process plant and low pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Supporting smaller electrical projects and equipment repairs for colleagues
  • Contributing to all project stages from research and development through to installation and commissioning
  • Applying and testing instrumentation sensors, such as flowmeters and solenoid valves
  • Conducting testing regimes and maintaining appropriate documentation
  • Creating detailed instructions, drawings, and specifications for project components
  • Implementing health and safety practices and maintaining proper documentation

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain valuable hands-on experience while making meaningful contributions to environmental research. You’ll work 36.5 hours per week at the Streatham Campus in Exeter from June 2025 to May 2026.

Electronics Engineer Skills and Qualifications Required 💻

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in constructing material models, structures, or rigs for experimental work
  • Knowledge of testing and application of instrumentation sensors
  • Ability to conduct maintenance and servicing on equipment
  • Skills in documentation preparation including instructions, drawings, and specifications
  • Proficiency in programming with Python and Arduino IDE
  • Experience using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar devices
