As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Globus, you will lead the design, implementation, and operation of cloud infrastructure that ensures security, high performance, high availability, and scalability for Globus platform services. Working as a senior member of the Globus Operations team and reporting directly to the System and Security Operations Manager, you’ll integrate services with monitoring, operations, and deployment engineering required for effective operation as a hosted service.

💼 DevOps Engineer Responsibilities

  • Architecture and Design Leadership: Define and document cloud infrastructure architecture, including monitoring, logging, security, and deployment strategies for both production and development environments.

  • Security Operations Management: Implement and monitor Globus’ security procedures and controls, create audit reports to meet target security compliance standards, and participate in incident response when required.

  • SRE/Operations Excellence: Deploy, operate, monitor, and maintain production Globus services for high availability, ensuring research data management services remain reliable for thousands of users.

  • Technical Support Consultation: Serve as a technical consultant and resource for other team members, including engineering and user support teams, to assist in addressing operational issues and troubleshooting.

  • System Innovation: Design new systems, features, and tools while solving complex problems and identifying opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization.

  • Technology Utilization: Apply technical knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

🎯 Technical Skills Required for DevOps Engineer Success

The ideal candidate for this Senior DevOps Engineer position will possess:

  • Experience developing in scripting languages, with emphasis on Python and Bash, to automate, monitor, and maintain infrastructure.

  • Strong Linux administration skills, including troubleshooting and management tools expertise.

  • Demonstrated experience with AWS services including IAM, VPC, WAF, KMS, EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, SQS, S3, and ECS.

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, and DNS configuration.

  • Experience implementing and managing monitoring solutions such as AWS CloudWatch and Nagios.

  • Expertise in relational database administration tasks for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.

  • Proficiency with CI/CD orchestration tools like GitHub Actions and Jenkins.

  • Skill in designing and building Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and CloudFormation.

  • Operational experience with web servers (Apache, Nginx) and web-based technologies (RESTful APIs, SSL certificate management, TLS).

  • Security operations experience with public sector compliance regulations (FedRAMP, HIPAA, FISMA).
