Responsibilities

• Lead successful income generation and research grant capture
• Pursue world-leading research in climate law and sustainability
• Contribute to the leadership team of JusTN0W
• Lead capacity building and Continuous Professional Development activities
• Deliver excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Enhance the quality of the research environment in the Department
• Attract and supervise research students
• Contribute to the administrative functioning of the Department and wider University

What is the JusTN0W initiative?

JusTN0W (‘Just Transitions to a Net Zero World’) is an ambitious and interdisciplinary initiative funded by a £5 million investment. It brings together academic colleagues across Law, Economics, Computer Science, and Natural Sciences to advance knowledge and implementation of just transitions to net zero at international, national, and local levels.

What research opportunities are available?

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team at an exciting moment, shaping and developing a cutting-edge research and impact agenda. The position offers the opportunity to build on existing links into international governance frameworks such as the Conferences of Parties (COPs) under the umbrella of the international climate change regime.

What teaching responsibilities will I have?

For this specific post, the teaching load will be significantly reduced to allow for extra grant capture and research activities. However, you will be expected to deliver excellent teaching, offering lectures, seminars, and tutorials at undergraduate and taught postgraduate levels.

What is the Centre for Sustainable Development Law and Policy (CSDLP)?

The CSDLP was founded in 2022 and operates as a research centre at the University level, with around 50 members from different disciplines. Your research will contribute to strategically important research objectives as part of Durham’s internationally leading JusTN0W initiative, which is embedded in the CSDLP.
