Job Description Summary

The Case Manager at Columbia University oversees the implementation and monitoring of accommodations for faculty, staff, and students involved in investigative processes related to discrimination, harassment, and misconduct, reporting to the Director of Case Management.

📋 Case Manager Responsibilities

This pivotal role within Columbia University’s centralized office (combining Title IX, Gender Based Misconduct, Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action, and Office of the Protection of Minors teams) requires excellent interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of support mechanisms. The Case Manager will:

  • Provide comprehensive information and guidance to faculty, staff, students, and affiliates regarding available resources and processes related to reports of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sex-based harassment, sexual misconduct, stalking, domestic and dating violence, and prohibited relationships.
  • Conduct detailed interviews to collect summaries of concerns and communicate possible courses of action, including University resources, investigative processes, and law enforcement options where applicable.
  • Advise faculty, staff, and students about their rights under University policies in a clear, compassionate manner.
  • Meet personally with faculty, staff, and students to thoroughly assess needs and create customized case management plans to address specific situations.
  • Collaborate effectively with University partners to arrange academic, workplace, and community accommodations, while implementing and monitoring these accommodations on an ongoing basis.
  • Refer faculty, staff, and students to appropriate confidential and non-confidential resources when necessary, maintaining detailed documentation of case information, updates, interim measures, referrals, and accommodations in the student database.
  • Support the Administrative Resolution process by issuing no-contact directives, implementing safety measures, making counseling referrals, and coordinating targeted education and training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Case Management.

📚 Qualifications for Case Manager Position

  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
  • Experience with alternative resolutions, including conducting mediations and facilitated conversations
