Business Intelligence Analyst Role: Job Description Summary

As a Business Intelligence Analyst at Stanford University’s Financial Management Services (FMS), you’ll play a vital role in the Pinnacle project transitioning HR, Timekeeping, and Payroll systems to Oracle Cloud. You’ll focus on reporting integration, testing new reports, and ensuring smooth data flows between payroll and the university data warehouse, while supporting parallel projects including OBI retrofit and data governance updates.

🔍 Business Intelligence Analyst Responsibilities

  • Data Transformation & Analysis: Transform raw data into user-friendly formats for diverse audiences, producing analytics solutions that drive organizational monitoring, efficiency, and decision-making
  • Report Development: Create insightful business intelligence reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, dashboards, scorecards, and continuous monitoring systems
  • Data Quality Management: Clean and transform data to deliver actionable information, identify problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root causes for complex data issues
  • Collaborative Solution Design: Work with application developers, end users, vendors, and management to ensure effective creation and delivery of business intelligence solutions
  • Information Flow Documentation: Facilitate working sessions with central and distributed users to identify and document current information flows, data models, and reporting systems
  • Data Governance: Originate and coordinate data governance and stewardship assignments across systems
  • Solution Assessment: Perform fit-gap analysis comparing existing reporting solutions with BI strategy and assess compliance with best practices
  • Testing & Implementation: Participate in user acceptance testing of new BI analysis and reporting systems, upgrades, enhancements, and change requests
  • Technical Work: Work extensively with applications including Oracle, OBI, ServiceNow, SQL, Tableau, Incorta, Python, and RStudio

💻 Technical Skills and Qualifications Required

The ideal candidate for this Business Intelligence Analyst position will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of applicable experience, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Strong knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes, and workflow
  • Proficiency in the software development lifecycle and project management techniques
  • Proven ability to review business processes and translate them into BI reporting and analysis solutions
  • Experience in data analysis, root cause analysis, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency with enterprise applications and database-driven applications
  • In-depth knowledge of relational and dimensional logical data modeling
  • Expert-level skills in MS Office and analytical/business intelligence programs (OBIEE, Tableau, Python, etc.)
  • Extensive background in report design and application of UI/UX best practices
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills

Preferred qualifications include: – Experience at Stanford University and/or with Oracle EBS, PeopleSoft HRMS, and Oracle HCM
