Job Description Summary

The University of Sussex is seeking a detail-oriented Academic Casework Officer to join their Student Administration team, processing Exceptional Circumstance Claims and academic appeals while ensuring regulations are applied consistently, objectively and with sensitivity to students’ needs.

Academic Casework Responsibilities

  • Process and evaluate Exceptional Circumstance Claims from students, ensuring fair and consistent application of university regulations
  • Handle academic appeals with high levels of accuracy, diplomacy, and attention to detail
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information in writing to students and staff
  • Work collaboratively with the Academic Casework Manager and other team members
  • Manage personal workload and prioritize cases appropriately
  • Exercise sound judgment when making decisions on Exceptional Circumstance claims and Academic Appeals
  • Ensure all casework follows university regulations and procedures

Additional Academic Casework Information

This is a fixed-term position for a maximum of 12 months as maternity cover. The role is available as full-time (36.5 hours per week) or part-time, with flexible working options considered subject to business needs. The successful candidate will join a team of two other Academic Casework officers and the Academic Casework Manager, working collaboratively to support student needs while maintaining academic standards and procedural integrity.

This role may be eligible for sponsorship. Please consult the University’s Skilled Worker Visa information page for further information about Visa Sponsorship. Please be aware that any role graded below 5.3 or £30,960 per annum will not be eligible for sponsorship.
