The Technician A position at Columbia University Medical Center’s Center for Translational Immunology (CCTI) supports critical research projects focused on organ transplantation and diabetes, requiring laboratory skills in processing biological samples and conducting immunological analyses.

🔬 Laboratory Technician Responsibilities in Immunology Research

The selected candidate will join a dynamic research team at Columbia University Medical Center’s prestigious Center for Translational Immunology. This role offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge immunological research techniques and valuable exposure to translational medicine. As a Laboratory Technician, you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Tissue Processing & Lymphocyte Isolation: Master specialized techniques for processing human and mouse tissues while isolating lymphocytes from diverse sources including blood, bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes, intestinal biopsies and resections, lung bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and lung parenchyma.

  • Advanced Flow Cytometry: Conduct sophisticated immune cell phenotyping and antibody titration, including multicolor (>15) flow cytometry staining and cell acquisition using state-of-the-art BD Diva LSR-II/Fortessa and/or Cytek Aurora flow cytometry systems. Analyze complex immunological data using FlowJo and GraphPad software.

  • Molecular Biology Techniques: Perform DNA extraction from various sample types including cells and fresh, frozen, or FFPE tissues, followed by PCR amplification and electrophoretic analysis as required by research protocols.

  • Biospecimen Management: Maintain meticulous sample storage systems, including proper freezing and thawing of cells while maintaining detailed records using specialized FreezerPro software to ensure sample integrity and experimental reproducibility.

  • Laboratory Operations Support: Assist the laboratory manager with crucial operational tasks such as ordering, organizing, and monitoring general laboratory supplies, managing antibody distribution to team members, and actively participating in weekly research-in-progress meetings.

  • Research Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow laboratory members on experiments under their supervision and with Principal Investigator approval, contributing to the team’s research objectives and scientific progress.
