The University of Surrey School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an enthusiastic anatomic pathologist to join their growing team of veterinary professionals. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a £11m purpose-built, state-of-the-art Veterinary Pathology Centre while contributing to the education of the next generation of veterinary professionals.

As a member of this prestigious institution, you’ll become part of a 100-strong team of teaching and research staff dedicated to excellence in veterinary medicine education and research. The Veterinary Pathology Centre, constructed seven years ago, boasts impressive facilities including both a CL2 (containment level 2) post-mortem area with viewing gallery and a specialized CL3 post-mortem area, allowing for comprehensive diagnostic capabilities.

Veterinary Pathologist Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a diverse range of responsibilities, making this role both challenging and rewarding. Your primary duties will include:

• Conducting diagnostic services, including biopsies and post-mortems for both private diagnostic cases and APHA (Animal Plant Health Agency) surveillance
• Teaching final year (year 5) students during their intramural rotations (IMR), focusing on post-mortem skills development
• Delivering lectures, conducting practical classes, and participating in the assessment of undergraduate students in years 1-4
• Supervising and actively participating in the veterinary pathology residency program
• Potentially providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities to external partners
• Contributing to the overall educational mission of the School of Veterinary Medicine

Veterinary Pathologist Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications:

• A veterinary degree that is registerable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS)
• Substantial experience in surveillance and post-mortem services
• Genuine interest in teaching and supervising students in veterinary pathology
• Excellent communication skills for effective knowledge transfer
• Strong organizational abilities
• Collaborative mindset and team-oriented approach

Preferred Qualifications:

• Board qualifications from ACVP, ECVP, or FRCPath
• Previous teaching experience in higher education
