Job Description Summary

Swansea University is seeking a Research Assistant to join the NEURONE programme, a collaborative effort to develop advanced steel for commercial fusion applications. This fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in material science and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive mechanical tests including room and high-temperature tensile, fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue tests
  • Perform in-depth microstructural analysis of novel steel variants
  • Investigate deformation and failure mechanisms through detailed fractography using advanced imaging tools
  • Analyze mechanical data and derive correlations as necessary
  • Regularly report findings to academic and industrial collaborators
  • Ensure testing is conducted according to best practices described in relevant international standards
