Responsibilities of the Lecturer in Psychological Therapies & Mental Health

As a Lecturer in Psychological Therapies & Mental Health at Leeds Beckett University, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality education and supporting student success. Your primary responsibilities will include:

Teaching and Learning

  • Develop and deliver engaging teaching and learning experiences in counselling and psychotherapy-related subjects across various courses, including:
    • MA Integrative Counselling
    • PG Cert. Counselling & Interpersonal Skills
    • BSc Counselling & Mental Health
  • Utilize innovative teaching methods to ensure student engagement and learning effectiveness
  • Stay current with the latest developments in psychological therapies and mental health to inform your teaching

Student Support

  • Act as an academic advisor, providing personalized academic support to students
  • Offer timely and constructive feedback on assessments to enhance student learning and development
  • Maintain flexible availability to address student needs and concerns

Curriculum Development

  • Participate in curriculum development initiatives as a member of relevant teams and groups
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of course content and delivery methods

Research and Enterprise

  • Undertake personal and collaborative research aligned with the University’s Research and Enterprise strategy
  • Engage in scholarly activities to maintain professional expertise and contribute to the field of psychological therapies and mental health

Administrative Duties

  • Assist in various administrative processes, including:
    • Student admissions
    • Annual reviews
    • Examination boards
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the department and university

Qualifications and Skills Required

To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • A first degree and a master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience teaching in higher education or an equivalent setting in counselling or psychotherapy
  • Higher Education Academy (HEA) accredited teaching qualification or Fellowship of the HEA (or willingness to obtain within two years)
  • Relevant professional experience in counselling/psychotherapy practice
  • Knowledge of teaching relational theory, counselling/psychotherapy, and the broader context of therapies for mental health
  • BACP accredited status or equivalent (desirable)
