Job Description Summary

Birmingham City University is seeking qualified Social Work Practice Educators to join as Visiting Lecturers in the Social Work Department. This role offers an opportunity to support students across Birmingham and the surrounding region during their placements as an Off-site Practice Educator.

Responsibilities

  • Support Social Work students during their placements across Birmingham and the region
  • Serve as an Off-site Practice Educator for students in both first and final placements
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students throughout their practical learning experiences
  • Assess and evaluate student performance during placements
  • Collaborate with the Social Work Department faculty and staff to ensure high-quality education and support for students
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports related to student placements and progress
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development activities as required

Q: How many hours can I claim for each placement?

A: For full Final placements, you can claim up to 33.5 hours. For first placements, you can claim up to 23.5 hours, subject to student completion.

Q: How often will I be paid?

A: As a Visiting Lecturer, you can submit monthly claims for pay using our online system.

Q: Is this a permanent position?

A: Visiting Lecturer posts are part-time, fixed-term contracts. The specific amount of hours will be agreed upon between you and the Faculty.

Q: How long will my application be kept in the recruitment pool?

A: Recruitment pools are closed at the end of September each year. You will be contacted with an invite to resubmit your details for the following year’s recruitment pool if you would like to be considered again.
