Job Description Summary
The University of Southampton is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant specializing in science-related disciplines to join their Student Disability and Inclusion team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support disabled students in their academic journey, providing essential assistance in various aspects of their university experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive notetaking support during classes, both in-person and online, creating concise and accurate summaries of lectures and discussions.
- Assist students in laboratory sessions, workshops, and clinical skills training, helping with equipment setup, operation, and data recording.
- Offer study assistance to help students adapt to the rigorous demands of higher education, focusing on organization, motivation, and academic preparation.
- Deliver practical support, including acting as a sighted guide, assisting with library usage, and transcribing materials as needed.
- Provide exam support by reading questions aloud, transcribing answers, and offering prompts during assessments.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and uphold the confidentiality and dignity of the students you support.
- Collaborate effectively with the Student Disability and Inclusive Support Coordinator team to ensure tailored support for each student.
- Participate in ongoing training and performance reviews to enhance your skills and the quality of support provided.
- Familiarize yourself with the University’s layout, services, and academic timetabling relevant to your assigned work.
- Develop a strong understanding of subject-specific terminology to effectively support students in scientific disciplines.
