Job Description Summary
Imperial College London is seeking a Research Associate to join a NERC-funded project investigating the potential for subduction megathrust earthquakes through state-of-the-art numerical experiments and observational analysis.
Responsibilities
- Design and run 3D numerical models of subduction using Underworld, ensuring model robustness and efficiency.
- Interpret numerical model results to better understand the physics of earthquake loading and its relation to large-scale subduction parameters.
- Update and statistically evaluate compilations of observational constraints on subduction parameters and megathrust earthquake characteristics.
- Develop methods to compare and integrate observational constraints and numerical model results to derive physics-based estimates of megathrust potential.
- Contribute to updating project objectives based on progress and initial results.
- Work independently on designing and running numerical models, developing codes for compiling and analyzing observational constraints, and integrating observations and numerical results.
- Actively engage with the project teams in London and Australia, effectively communicating with the whole project team.
- Provide regular progress reports to the research team.
- Disseminate results through publications in high-quality journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
