Job Description Summary

Imperial College London, a renowned research institution, is seeking exceptional candidates for up to 4 academic faculty positions as Lecturers or Senior Lecturers in the Department of Life Sciences, starting in the 2024-25 academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a broad range of research within the department, focusing on areas such as metabolic engineering, bioenergetics, plant biochemistry, structural biology, immunology, virology, glycobiology, cell biology, neuroscience, or developmental biology.
  • Direct, lead, or contribute to research in the specified fields.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor research staff and students.
  • Obtain research funds and grants from various sources, and encourage and guide colleagues in doing the same.
  • Manage research projects and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Attend and present work at national and international conferences.
  • Develop collaborations and strengthen links with colleagues within the department, across Imperial College, and with external institutions.
  • Play an active role in the national and international research community and learned societies.
  • Contribute to research and administrative meetings within the department.
  • Foster scientific collaborations through organizing, attending, and contributing to multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Teach at all levels – undergraduate, master’s, and higher research degrees – through lectures, seminars, and tutorials.
  • Examine courses, set coursework and exams, and conduct viva examinations.
  • Mentor students, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Supervise PhD candidates and provide pastoral support for students.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of teaching within the field.
  • Participate in the planning and objective setting process for the department and campus.
  • Contribute to the leadership of academic teams, the department, faculty, college, and national/international initiatives.
  • Resolve conflicts and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion.
  • Adhere to College guidelines and policies, including those related to leave, equal opportunities, health and safety, and confidentiality.
  • Undertake administrative duties as directed by the Head of Department.
  • Engage in necessary training and development activities.
  • Contribute to the appointment, management, and development of College staff.
