Job Description Summary

The University of Nottingham is offering a three-year PhD Studentship in the School of Medicine to conduct a health economic evaluation of community-acquired pneumonia in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets, including Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) and Hospital Episode Statistics, to identify the economic burden of community-acquired pneumonia in the UK.
  • Estimate the total healthcare cost and burden to the NHS by linking relevant treatments and associated Health Resource Group (HRG) codes with NHS Reference Costs, primary care activity with Unit Costs of Health and Social Care, and British National Formulae (BNF).
  • Perform subgroup analyses by age, ethnicity, and index of multiple deprivation.
  • Collect and analyze prospectively collected EQ-5D-5L data from a cohort of patients to determine the impact of community-acquired pneumonia on quality of life.
  • Clean and prepare datasets, score the EQ-5D-5L using UK-specific value sets, and control for missing data using multiple imputation.
