Job Description Summary

Durham University seeks a talented researcher and scholar for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Department of History. The successful candidate will work on the project ‘Modelling the Black Death and Social Connectivity in Medieval England,’ focusing on reconstructing the characteristics and behavioral patterns of the late medieval population to simulate the spread of the Black Death.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research using archival material and secondary sources to construct datasets on the social structure, demography, and communication networks of medieval England.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Archaeology to establish variable mortality rates during the Black Death and with colleagues in Physics to prepare datasets for computer simulation.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences and workshops.
  • Assist with developing research objectives, proposals, and future funding applications.
  • Contribute to fostering an inclusive and respectful working environment.
