Job Description Summary

Durham University is seeking an exceptional individual to join its esteemed Department of Physics as an Associate Professor in Astronomical Instrumentation. Responsibilities

  • Pursue world-leading research in astronomical instrumentation for ground-based or space-based telescopes, with a focus on originality, significance, and rigor.
  • Contribute to the development of successful research project proposals and secure national and international funding opportunities.
  • Maintain and expand strong scientific collaborations between observational astronomers and instrument developers within Durham and beyond.
  • Deliver excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, and curriculum development.
  • Contribute to enhancing the research environment in the Department, the University, and the broader scientific community.
  • Establish and lead research groups, engage in mentoring early-career researchers, and attract and supervise research students.
  • Contribute significantly to the administrative functioning and collegial environment of the Department and the University.
  • Champion and enhance the values of the Department, including equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Remote Work Policy
