Job Description Summary
The University of Leeds is seeking an experienced Nature Based Solutions Project Officer to lead practical conservation and restoration activities at Gair Wood, a new woodland creation project in north Leeds. This role will play a crucial part in delivering projects that benefit climate, nature, and people.
Responsibilities
- Review existing data, surveys, and reports to identify and prioritize practical work needed
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan and deliver practical conservation tasks
- Organize and lead hands-on task sessions with volunteers, including at least one weekend day per month
- Build effective relationships with the local community, partners, and external organizations
- Assist with scientific monitoring activities, such as data collection, vegetation monitoring, and biodiversity assessments
- Facilitate field teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Coordinate student and staff access for research projects
- Ensure safe working practices by conducting appropriate risk assessments
- Collaborate with the LEAF Communications and Engagement Officer to deliver outreach and public engagement activities
- Engage with other woodland creation projects in the White Rose Forest region to share learnings and develop best practices
